The Wall Street Journal, a bastion of sports reportage, has embedded an "AccuScore NFL Plaoff Simulator" on its website; and you can assess the chances of another Steelers' Super Bowl victory.

In my simulation the Steelers were eliminated in the Wild Card round by the New England Patriots (and the Colts were crowned as champions).

Simulation predicts close game

The folks at Whatifsports ran 10,000 simulations of this week's Vikings versus Steelers contest and predicts that the Vikings will win, probably in a squeaker.

How close? The average score was Minnesota 23.8-Steelers 23.4.

The web page for this simulated game includes a whole host of simulated statistics ~ very interesting stuff!

Third time is the Charm: Another Simulation

A third simulation (not counting cats) has identified the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team that will win this year's Super Bowl.

The folks at Accuscore.com accurately predicted a Steelers' victory over Baltimore in the AFC Championship game. Now comes word that these same folks are predicting A Pittsburgh win in the biggest game of the season.

After 10,000 simulations the AccuScore pegs the final score of Super Bowl XLIII as Pittsburgh 27.1 - Arizona 20.6, just within the seven point spread Las Vegas set two weeks ago.

We can only hope.

Felines predict Steelers victory

I suppose there is little surprise in cats predicting a victory by anyone over a team named for a type of bird, but the (Portland) Oregonian reports that a group of cats "predicted" a Steelers win in Super Bowl XLIII.

We cannot say it makes us any more confident, but if they had chosen the Cardinals we would have been ever more concerned.

Madden Simulation predicts Steelers win

According the EA Sports video game "Madden 09," the Steelers will win Super Bowl XLIII.

Unlike the previous simulation we highlighted ~ one that was very close in terms of how we view the game, and therefore much more accurate ~ Madden 09 has the Steelers jumping to a substantial lead by halftime and then hanging on to win 28-24.

The first of many: A Super Bowl Simulation

No doubt about it ~ we love game simulations; and it helps when they adhere to our view of how the game will unfold.

In a recent conversation with Big Dan the 'Burgh Man a prediction was made ~ the Cardinals would score first, the Steelers might even trail at halftime, but would comeback to win by less than the point spread.

With that in mind, we offer up a simulation from WhatifSports.com (the details of the game can be seen here)that has the Steelers winning the game 20-16 with a ten point fourth quarter.

One can only hope.

An AccuScore Prediction

AccuScore has come out with their prediction for Sunday's game.

Big Dan and I will be at the game tomorrow (just as we were at the game last Sunday), and will try to do some live blogging ~ my cellphone battery willing!

Another Game Simulation

We love game predictions based upon some kind (i.e. any kind) of simulation; and the one we found for the game coming up made us quite happy.

According to AccueScore.com the Steelers will win their tenth game of the season, 22.8-21.2, over Dallas.

This particular forecast goes into tremendous detail ~ going so far as to provide a predicted boxscore (something all the fantasy players will no doubt appreciate) for the game.

One thing that caught our eye (beyond the final score) was the predicted performances of the starting quarterbacks. AccuScore predicts that Tony Romo will end up with a quarterback rating of 85.3 for the game, despite the fact that Mr. Romo is second in the NFL in quarterback rating for away games (95.9). Meanwhile Ben Roethliisberger is predicted to come in at a quarterback rating of 95.0 despite the fact that he is 23rd in the league in quarterback rating at home (78.6 ~ Mr. Roethlisberger's away quarterback rating is 81.5), and despite the fact that the Cowboys' defense is predicted to sack Mr. Roethlisberger 4.2 times and intercept him once.

Well, let's all hope the computer knows best.

Game Simulation Predicts Steelers Loss

We are always interested in the predictions others have for the Steelers (our own efforts predicting the future having proved so miserable), especially video game simulations!

The website BetUS.com has revealed the results of their Xbox 360 simulation and the news is not good.

Interestingly their simulation has the Steelers winning the time of possession and total offense battles, but losing the turnover battle in a big way.

We'll provide a comparison between the simulation and the real thing iin next week's "Good, Bad, & Ugly."
